Langer accuses Indian cricket supporters of jeering Hardik during every match
Justin Langer praised the idolization of certain Indian cricket players, such as MS Dhoni, but he also saw a drawback, citing Hardik Pandya as an example.
The IPL 2024 final between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad is scheduled for Sunday. Fans will be remembering this season as one to remember. Big moments in IPL 2024 included Sunil Narine’s debut for KKR, MI’s drama, Riyan Parag’s final defense of his RR selection, and many more. However, MS Dhoni was once again the center of attention. Although Dhoni gave Ruturaj Gaikwad the leadership before the IPL 2024 season began, the veteran was the unofficial leader on the field. Opponents found it extremely difficult to defeat CSK in Chennai because of the large number of fans wearing Dhoni jerseys.
Their fans also showed up at their home games wearing Dhoni shirts when CSK came to town, which didn’t make things any easier.
LSG coach Justin Langer talked about his first-ever IPL team management experience on BBC Sport – Stumped. The Australian discussed Dhoni’s ferocious Indian fan base, drawing comparisons to that of Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar. It is remarkable. I was the first to learn about it, and we played them [CSK] twice. They traveled to Lucknow, where Ekana Stadium can hold up to 50,000 people. To be honest, 48,000 MS Dhoni number seven shirts would have been worn. When we got to CSK, there wasn’t 98%—there was 100%, which astounded me. It’s astounding, too. The reverence for heroes in India is astounding,” he remarked.
And so, as a player, I experienced it during our previous games in India, especially with Sachin Tendulkar. However, it’s wonderful when you get over there. That was back when I was coaching Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni for [Australia].
According to Langer, there are drawbacks and other players are harmed by the Indian cricket players’ idol worship. In a surprise move back to Mumbai Indians prior to the IPL 2024 auction, Hardik Pandya took over as captain almost away, deposing public favorite Rohit Sharma. After joining GT and leaving MI in 2022, Pandya was promoted to skipper. They finished runners-up after he guided them to the championship in their first season. In his second MI assignment, nevertheless, he has not been able to duplicate his captaincy abilities.
“And I also witnessed the other side of it, as India captain Rohit Sharma is regarded as a national hero.” Furthermore, this year’s events involving the Mumbai Indians… Hardik Pandya succeeded Rohit Sharma as captain. the adored Rohit Sharma. And watching it made me really depressed. You know, the Indian fans booed him at every game. He leads the Indian T20I team as vice-captain. I therefore witnessed both sides of it. Jonty Rhodes and Morne Morkel, who had previously attended the IPL, told me this. Go with the flow instead of getting angry about it, Langer said.
