The former head coach of Bournemouth and Fulham has been out of the game since being fired earlier this year, but he has now secured a new position outside of England and is now a part of illustrious company.

Scott Parker, a former manager of Bournemouth and Fulham, will be managing in the Champions League this season after being unexpectedly named the new head coach of Belgian powerhouse Club Brugge.

Following a 9-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield earlier this season, the ex-midfielder was fired by the Cherries. He hasn’t played since August, but now that he’s been connected to several job openings, he’s finally landed a new job.

After just 18 games of the season, the defending Belgian champions are already 12 points behind in fourth place. Parker will get the opportunity to manage in the Champions League this year in addition to trying to improve his new team’s domestic fortunes.

They advanced from a group that includes Porto, Bayer Leverkusen, and Atletico Madrid, and were paired with Benfica in the round of 16, who are a Portuguese powerhouse. Parker already led his old club Bournemouth to promotion from the Championship, so if they succeed, that would undoubtedly rate highly among his career accomplishments.

The former midfielder said back in November that he was awaiting the ideal scenario to return to the game. He reportedly stated, as quoted by BT Sport, “I have been away now for some months, spent some time with the family, and perhaps not taken a lot of football in.
