Mithali Raj believes that the WPL will change the way women’s cricket is played in India.
Former India captain Mithali Raj believes that the NCA should have a separate wing dedicated to women’s cricket. Women’s cricket in India is becoming more popular, thanks to the WPL and increased focus on the U19 team. As a result, she believes it will be difficult for VVS Laxman (the NCA chief) to manage everything, and she wishes for someone specific to oversee the women’s department.
She also stated that women cricketers in India do not get to play as many matches in domestic cricket because there aren’t as many tournaments. She believes, however, that WPL can change that. She stated that scouting camps will be held to identify good players, and that teams will eventually place them in the proper system to nurture the talent.
“The busier women’s cricket gets and more tournaments they play, you need to have a separate wing to run women’s cricket. One person cannot manage everything, and women’s cricket must be managed separately. There will be numerous camps as well as senior-level matches. It will be beneficial if there is a separate women’s wing. However, the BCCI has the final say.”
