Babar Azam explains why he is rooting for Virat Kohli during his difficult time.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has explained why he sent a strong message to Virat Kohli last year. The star batter had surprised the cricket world with a ‘This too shall pass’ tweet for a rival player. Many former Pakistani players frequently support the Indian players. However, few expected a player like Babar to send out such a tweet.

Babar tweeted the message in July 2022, when Kohli was not at his best. He was dismissed for 16 runs the day before in an ODI against England at Lord’s Cricket Ground, which the hosts won by 100 runs. The former India captain had also not scored a century since his 136-run knock against Bangladesh in 2019. He had scored 806 ODI runs at an average of 36.68 from his previous hundred. He wasn’t even able to score some decent runs in T20 cricket.

Babar took to Twitter to express his support for Kohli, writing, “This too shall pass. “Remain strong.” Along with the post, he included a photo of them together. Kohli had also expressed gratitude, saying, “Thank you. Continue to shine and rise. I wish you the best.”

“At the time, I reasoned that tweeting might give someone assistance and confidence. As a player, you try to support every athlete in a difficult situation,” Babar told ICC.

“It is during difficult times that you learn what you are thinking about others. At the time, I thought I should have done it, and maybe something good would come of it. Something that could be advantageous,” he added.
