The stage is set for MS Dhoni’s retirement in IPL 2023. Thala Dhoni will play his final match on May 14 at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium. The release of the IPL 2023 schedule on Friday set the stage for Dhoni’s final match. If CSK fails to make the playoffs, he will play his final match against the Kolkata Knight Riders. CSK will begin their season against the defending champions, the Gujarat Titans.
“Yes, this will be MS’s final season as a player. So far, that is all we know. But, of course, it’s his choice. He has not officially informed management of his intention to retire. The return of the IPL to Chennai is a special occasion for all CSK fans. However, it will be a sad occasion if Dhoni plays his final season.”
Dhoni has been the captain of CSK since its inception in 2008. He returned to lead the team after serving a two-year suspension. Dhoni handed over the captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja last season. However, it backfired as CSK struggled under Jadeja’s captaincy.
After only eight games, the former India captain reclaimed the captaincy but was unable to resurrect CSK’s campaign. This time, CSK will start as favourites, as Dhoni will look to end on a high note by delivering CSK their fifth IPL title. If CSK fails to qualify for the playoffs, his final home game against Kolkata Knight Riders at Chepauk Stadium will be on May 14.
