After Graham Reid stepped down as India’s head coach following the FIH hockey World Cup, the country’s interim coaches will be Australian David John, BJ Kariappa, and Shivendra Singh. Physiologist David John served as the high-performance director for Hockey India. He is widely regarded as having a significant impact on Indian teams’ ability to achieve the necessary levels of fitness prior to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Shivendra Singh was a senior forward for India, and BJ Kariappa previously coached the junior Indian hockey team.

The trio will lead India in their FIH Pro League 2022-23 matches against world champions Germany and the world’s No. 4 team, Australia, in Rourkela the following month. India will play each of its opponents twice. According to the Olympics website, Hockey India has also named a 20-person team for the event.

Harmanpreet Singh, an experienced campaigner, will lead India. Hardik Singh has taken over as the team’s vice-captain in place of Amit Rohidas.

PR Sreejesh, a veteran goalkeeper, is also on the team. The goalkeeper, Krishan Bahadur Pathak, is unavailable because his wedding dates clash with the FIH Pro League games.
