Kolkata Knight Riders, led by Sourav Ganguly, won the toss and chose to field first. The Royal Challengers Bangalore posted a total of 82 runs in their 20 overs, with Kolkata Knight Riders chasing down the target in just 15.1 overs and winning the match by 10 wickets.
The inaugural season of the IPL consisted of 8 teams, and the tournament was played over 44 days with a total of 59 matches. Rajasthan Royals emerged as the champions of the first IPL season, defeating the Chennai Super Kings in the final by 3 wickets.
