Mumbai Indians won the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL), defeating Delhi Capitals by 7 wickets in a closely fought final played on March 26 at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium.
When the MI team was put to bat second, they were given a reasonable goal of 132 runs, which they ended up chasing down in the 20th over against the DC bowling attack.
The English batter Nat Sciver-Brunt headed the run chase, remaining unbeaten with a knock of 60 runs off 55 balls. Harmanpreet Kaur, who scored 37(39) before being run out in the 17th over, carried the bat for the majority of the game.

Although DC remained in the game until the 20th over due to the required run rate, the bowlers were unable to turn the game in their advantage due to a lack of wickets. They struggled to find a breakthrough after dismissing openers Hayley Mathews(13) and Yastika Bhatia(4).
Earlier, DC’s highest scorer was captain Meg Lanning (35 off 29 balls). Shafali Verma (11) and Marizanne Kapp (18) also hit double figures but were unable to capitalise as DC slumped to 79 for 9 in 16 overs.
