Team India, led by Rohit Sharma, has been named the new No. 1 team in the ICC Men’s Test Rankings, leapfrogging Australia in the yearly rankings update. Australia’s 15-month reign atop the men’s Test Rankings comes to an end, with India leapfrogging the Aussies ahead of next month’s ICC World Test Championship 2023 final.
After a 4-0 win over England in the Ashes series, Pat Cummins’ team has risen to the top of the rankings, dethroning India. India have fallen from first place after losing their away Test series against South Africa, which signalled the end of Virat Kohli’s captaincy. “The annual rankings take into account all series completed since May 2020, with series completed before May 2022 weighted at 50% and all subsequent series weighted at 100%,” ICC stated in a release on Tuesday.
