The Stage 1 World Cup gold medal was also won by Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Ojas Deotale in Antalya last month.
By making it to the final on Friday, the compound archery team from India, consisting of Ojas Deotale and Jyothi Surekha Vennam, secured the country’s first medal in Stage 2 of the World Cup. Deotale and Surekha Vennam overcame their Italian competitors 157-157 (19*-19) in a thrilling conclusion to stay on track for a second straight World Cup victory.
The top-seeded Korean team will face the sixth-seeded Indian team in the championship match on Saturday. This will be the Indian team’s greatest test since they teamed up for the first time to win the Stage 1 World Cup gold in Antalya last month.
The Indians began the tournament by beating Bangladesh 158-151 in a pre-quarterfinal matchup before defeating Turkey 157-156 in the following round.
Elisa Roner and Elia Fregnan of Italy shot a flawless 40 in the opening end to take a one-point lead. In the third end, the Italians once more hit a 40, increasing their advantage to two points (117-119).
However, Ojas and Jyothi displayed great poise by drilling in two Xs on their way to shooting 40 in the fourth end to force a shoot-off. The Indians won the shoot-off when their arrows landed close to the centre, putting a stop to the match.
