LSG, who made their league debut in the 2022 season of the lucrative league, upset the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a nail-biting final over match at the Eden Gardens to win the league stage of the IPL 2023 with 17 points.
The Lucknow Super Giants have advanced to the IPL playoff round for the second consecutive season with their one-run victory over KKR. After LSG’s final league match of the IPL 2023, Super Giants skipper Rahul made a memorable Instagram Stories message in honour of Lucknow’s triumph. Rahul, the Indian opener, had already been injured and will miss the whole IPL 2023.
During the league phase of the IPL 2023, Rahul, the LSG franchise’s captain since their initial season, had a thigh injury. During LSG’s game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on May 1 in Lucknow, Rahul suffered a right leg injury. The Indian opener came out to bat at No. 11, but the injured player was unable to motivate LSG, and Lucknow lost the game against RCB at home by an 18-run margin.
Additionally missing the ICC World Test Championship final in a month will be the injured Indian opener. Rahul has been replaced in Team India’s star-studded lineup for the next Test Championship final against Australia by Mumbai Indians (MI) opener Ishan Kishan. Rahul scored 274 runs in 9 games during IPL 2023, averaging 34.25. In Rahul’s absence, Indian all-arounder Krunal Pandya is in charge of the Lucknow-based team.
LSG defeated KKR on Saturday to go to the playoff round of the IPL 2023 under Krunal’s direction. Rinku Singh’s unbroken innings of 67 was overshadowed by Nicholas Pooran’s stunning 58 off 30 balls as LSG defeated KKR by 1 run in Kolkata. “First impressions are positive. Even though we were under a lot of pressure, we never gave up, credit goes to the guys, said Krunal, the LSG’s replacement for the captain, after the game.
