Akash Madhwal takes a five-wicket haul and records the best figures of IPL 2023
Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 81 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 Eliminator match. Cameron Green and Suryakumar Yadav helped MI achieve a solid total of 182 before Akash Madhwal-led bowling limited LSG to 101 runs.
LSG started similarly to MI, with the openers returning to the pavilion early in the game. Except for Marcus Stoinis, no player was able to contribute significantly to the team. Akash Madhwal and Piyush Chawla applied constant pressure to the LSG hitters, and wickets continued to tumble.
Rohit Sharma (11) and Ishan Kishan (15) got off to a good start, hitting some stunning boundaries. However, Naveen-ul-Haq and Yash Thakur struck simultaneously, sending the openers back to the pavilion. Cameron Green and Suryakumar Yadav entered the grounds to make amends for their earlier defeat.
Cameron Green (41) and Suryakumar Yadav (33) both began their attacks against LSG bowlers, bringing cheers back to the MI camp. Green and Yadav led the squad beyond 100 runs with some stunning fours and exciting sixes.
However, Naveen-ul-Haq’s back-to-back wickets rocked MI’s batting, sending both Green and Yadav back to the dugout. Tilak Verma (26) and Tim David (13), both newcomers, opened MI’s innings cautiously. Yash Thakur, on the other hand, dismissed explosives. Tim David struck a delicate note, and Nehal Wadhera (23) in as an impact player.
Soon after, Naveen-ul-Haq removed Tilak Verma, and only Mohsin Khan dismissed Chris Jordan (4) in the following over. The MI innings was really battling now, and it was ultimately done with a score of 182/8.
Chasing 182, LSG got off to a shaky start, with opener Prerak Mankad (3) out in the second over. Kyle Mayers (18) played some boundaries in the following two overs, but Chris Jordan knocked him out in the fourth over, and it was nearly the same start as the MI.
Skipper Krunal Pandya (8) and Marcus Stoinis took over the chase, but Piyush Chawla had other plans, and Krunal Pandya strolled back to the dugout. The LSG camp had high hopes for Ayush Badoni (1), but Akash Madhwal grabbed back-to-back wickets and removed Badoni and Nicholas Pooran (0).
MI’s bowlers were now in perfect control, and LSG’s only chance was Marcus Stoinis (40), who was also removed in a stupid runout. The batters after that fell like a pack of cards, and the LSG squad went all-out at 101.
