The player who started the match against MI and received the Player of the Match award, Gill, was spotted talking with Sachin Tendulkar after the game.
It’s been Gill’s year; he came into this season of the IPL having scored his first T20I century in January, a Test century in the Border-Gavaskar series against Australia in February, and a double century in ODIs in the middle of those two series.
Gill maintained his exceptional form throughout the 2023 IPL, finally scoring his first century at his beloved Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, before adding another century against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chinnaswamy Stadium and finally reaching his third century in just four innings against the Mumbai Indians in the Qualifier 2 match.
He set a new record for a hitter in the IPL playoffs by scoring 129 runs in just 60 balls. With this performance, he has now scored 851 runs this season, becoming him the second Indian batsman behind Virat Kohli to do so. His overall tally is currently the third-best.
The opening was spotted having an intense conversation with MI’s coach Sachin following the encounter against MI, when Gill was given the Player of the encounter award for his performance. On social media, the image spread like wildfire.
Gill stated, “For me, it is playing ball to ball, over and over again,” at the post-game presentation. I gained the drive to go big after hitting three sixes in the over. I then recognised that it may actually be my day. Additionally, it was a fantastic wicket for batting.
The IPL 2023 championship game between GT and Chennai Super Kings will now take place on Sunday at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
