Chennai Super Kings were handed a revised target of 171 in 15 overs against Gujarat Titans but CSK chase the target and win the IPL final trophy by 5 wickets (DSL method)

Chennai Super Kings defeated Gujarat Titans by five wickets in the IPL 2023 final on Tuesday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Rain cut short CSK’s 215-run chase against GT on Monday evening after only three balls into the first over, with four runs on the board.

The game resumed after a lengthy interruption due to another round of rain at the venue. With a quick stand, Ruturaj Gaikwad (26) and Devon Conway (47) set up the chase before cameos from Ajinkya Rahane (27) and Ambati Rayudu (19) eased the strain.

Following Rayudu’s departure, CSK skipper MS Dhoni came out as the no. 6 batsman and was removed for a golden duck by Mohit Sharma.

With 10 required off two balls against Mohit, who was smashing back-to-back yorkers against Shivam Dube (32 not out), the chase came down to the wire. To win the title, Ravindra Jadeja (15 not out) smashed Mohit for a six over long-on and a four down.

CSK, who finished ninth last year, tied Mumbai Indians for the most IPL titles with five. Captain Dhoni, who was playing in his 11th final, tied Rohit Sharma for the most titles as a captain.

GT 214/4 (20)

CSK 171/5 (15)
