The 22-time grand slam winner anticipated to be sidelined for six to eight weeks after suffering an injury at the Australian Open in January, but he has still not healed over five months later.

Nadal was forced to skip the French Open for the first time in over two decades after admitting that his team had been unable to find a solution to the problem.

The Spaniard, who turns 37 on Saturday, revealed last month that he will take a vacation, maybe for the rest of the season, before embarking on a farewell tour next year.

Nadal’s reps confirmed the surgery on Friday, with the 14-time French Open winner getting an arthroscopic examination of his left psoas muscle in Barcelona.

The results will be released on Saturday morning.
