Carlos Alcaraz has won his previous 11 Grand Slam matches and is advancing to the Roland Garros last eight for the second year in a row.
Carlos Alcaraz defeated Lorenzo Musetti 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 on Sunday to go to the French Open quarter-finals and move one step closer to a meeting with Novak Djokovic.
Alcaraz hit 42 winners and broke seven times as he easily defeated Italian 17th seed Musetti, who had won their last meeting on clay last year.
The reigning US Open champion has won his previous 11 Grand Slam matches and is making his second appearance in the final eight at Roland Garros.
“I think I played at such a high level, with such high-quality shots.” “I played a really complete match from the first ball to the last, and I’m pretty happy to get through this tough round,” Alcaraz said.
“I try not to think about the number one ranking, the pressure, or winning the tournament.” I try to put all those ideas aside and simply play tennis, enjoy it, and smile all the time.”
The 20-year-old will face either 2021 runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas or Austrian qualifier Sebastian Ofner in the following round.
Alcaraz increased his record to 34-3 for the year and is one victory away from potentially facing Djokovic, a two-time winner of the French Open.
