In the following round, however, either Lakshya or Srikanth will be eliminated since they will face each other.

Lakshya Sen of India and Kidambi Srikanth of India advanced to the second round of the men’s singles at the Indonesia Open World Tour Super 1000 event on Wednesday with straight-game victories over their respective opponents.

While Lakshya, a world championship bronze medalist and world no.20, required only 32 minutes to defeat world no.11 Zii Jia Lee of Malaysia 21-17 21-13, Srikanth defeated Guang Zu Lu of China 21-13 21-19.

The victory allowed Srikanth, ranked 22nd, to maintain his lead over world no.13 Lu, improving his head-to-head record versus the Chinese to 5-0.

However, either Lakshya or Srikanth will be eliminated in the following round when they face each other.

Priyanshu Rajawat of India received a walkover from Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand to advance to the next round.

Rajawat, on the other hand, will face the winner of the match between Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittnghus of Denmark and second seed local shuttler Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in the second round.

HS Prannoy, the other Indian in the men’s singles competition, will face Hong Kong’s Angus Ng Ka Long in the second round.

However, Aakarshi Kashyap, a promising Indian female shuttler, fell out in the first round of women’s singles.

Kashyap was no match for Korea’s second seed An Se Young, losing 10-21 4-21.
