Adipurush, directed by Om Raut, has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons since its trailer was released. The film, starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan, is a dramatic rendition of the Ramayana. Many religious groups, moviegoers, and movie critics have panned the film for its VFX, portrayal of the characters, and lines. In the midst of all the criticism, former India cricketer Virender Sehwag voiced his unhappiness in the film Adipurush.
“Adipurush dekhkar pata chala Kattappa ne Bahubali ko kyun maara tha,” Sehwag posted on Twitter. (After viewing Adipurush, I understood why Katapa killed Baahubali.)”
“This letter is to draw your attention to a movie called Adipurush, which was released on June 16, 2023 in theatres across India, and has been hurting the sentiments of Hindu religion and the people who believe and pray Bhagwan Ram, Maa Sita, and RamSevak bhagwan Hanuman, the movie running in the theatres continues to depict the image of Bhagwan Ram and entire Ramayan, and the producers also want to make money selling discounted tickets across
T-Series and the producers, Writer Manoj Muntasir and Director Om Raut, have created a spoof of Ramayan by twisting the dialogues, costumes and storyline (Characters), which sounds unacceptable to anyone and everyone’, said All India Cine Workers Association President Suresh ShyamLal Gupta.
Gupta had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, urging that the film be banned immediately. He also that a FIR be filed against the film’s director Om Raut, writer Manoj Muntashir Shukla, and producers.
Speaking of Sehwag, the former India batsman recently praised Australia Test captain Pat Cummins for masterfully leading his team to a win over England in the first Ashes game last week. He even bestowed the label “Mr Cool” on him, which was popularly bestowed on former India captain MS Dhoni.
