According to reports, Shikhar Dhawan would captain a second-string Indian team under the direction of VVS Laxman.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will make a decision on their stance for the upcoming Asian Games, which will be hosted in Hangzhou, China, beginning September 23. According to rumours, Shikhar Dhawan would captain a second-string Indian team led by VVS Laxman. However, veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik offered an unexpected suggestion for India captaincy, dismissing Dhawan.
India did not field a cricket team for the Asiads in 2010 and 2014. However, following the absence of cricket from the Asian Games in 2018, the sport is likely to return in 2023. According to a recent Times of India story, the BCCI has still to determine whether to field a men’s, women’s or both teams at the Asian Games. However, because the event coincides with the opening of the ICC ODI World Cup in India, the BCCI may send a second-string team.
