Indian cricketers were frustrated and exhausted before the West Indies ODI series since their travel from Trinidad to Barbados was delayed.
A flight delay is said to have left Indian Test players who are also on the Caribbean ODI team angry, exhausted, and irritated before the start of the white-ball leg against the West Indies. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and the rest of the ODI squad were scheduled to leave Trinidad at 11 p.m. and arrive in Barbados after a washout on Day 5 at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain forced the second Test to end in a tie.
The first ODI was scheduled to begin in the early morning at the venue, but the flight was delayed and took off at 3 am, angering the players.
The first ODI is scheduled to take place on Thursday, leaving very little time between games. The last thing the players would have wanted is a delayed flight, especially one that leaves after midnight. According to the report, the Indian team management also asked BCCI to stop scheduling late-night flights going forward because the athletes require enough time to rest in between games.
They departed the hotel for the airport about 8:40 p.m., where they encountered a protracted wait. The team management has asked us to schedule a morning flight rather than a late-night trip because the players will want to recover after the game. The BCCI has accepted it and plans to change the upcoming schedule, according to a source within the organisation.
The Test team members chose not to attend the practise session in Barbados due to their delayed flight and tight travel plans.
Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja, Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shardul Thakur, Jaydev Unadkat, Axar Patel, and Mukesh Kumar are the players of the Test squad who also play for the ODI team. Other players for the three-match series, including vice-captain Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, and pacer Umran Malik, had already arrived in Barbados a few days before.
Before the players return to Trinidad for the final ODI, the first two ODIs are scheduled to take place in Barbados.
All eyes on Suryakumar, Samson, Kuldeep as India take on West Indies in three-match ODI series
India won the Test series 1-0 but ahead of the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup, these three ODIs will be India’s last opportunity to look at players like Sanju Samson, Umran Malik and Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav.
Ishan Kishan’s chances become minimal when Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma are scheduled to open the batting, unless the team management wants to consider the aggressive left-hander in the middle order. While Kishan and Gaikwad continue to serve as the backup openers, Samson seems to be the favourite to take the gloves.
While Suryakumar Yadav may get one final opportunity to apply his T20I form to ODIs before KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer regain their fitness, Hardik Pandya is anticipated to bat at No. 6 in the order.
As Jadeja appears likely to stump Axar for the No. 7 place, Chahal, who has dropped down the pecking order, will compete with Kuldeep for the frontline spinner’s position.
One shouldn’t rule out the prospect of Jadeja and Axar playing in the XI while Siraj serves as the primary seamer given the slow nature of the surfaces in the Caribbean.
