Owing to an injury, Bangladeshi fast bowler Ebadot Hossain will not be included in the Bangladeshi team for the 2023 Asia Cup.

Tanzim Hasan Sakib, an uncapped pacer, has taken Ebadot Hossain’s spot in the Bangladesh fast bowling lineup for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023 due to an injury. Ten days prior to the Asia Cup, Bangladesh revealed their 17-man roster, with Shakib Al Hasan serving as the new captain. During Bangladesh’s ODI series against Afghanistan last month, Ebdaot, a member of the starting squad, suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. The right-armer will require at least six weeks of rehabilitation, according to the evaluation, and with the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup less than two months away, the BCB does not want to take a chance on Ebadot’s injury getting worse.

Ebadot had recovered from the injuries over a period of six weeks. ACL issues are still being reported from the several MRIs we’ve had done, and it looks like we need to be taking more steps to control his condition. That means he will not be able to play in the Asia Cup,” chief sports physician Dr. Debashis Chowdhury of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) stated, as translated by the ICC.

“The BCB is dedicated to investigating every safe medical option available for getting Ebadot back to full fitness and playing as early as possible, including consultation and treatment overseas,” the statement reads. This is because the ICC World Cup is Bangladesh’s next major event.

Tanzim Hasan Sakib, a 20-year-old inexperienced pacer, has been selected by the BCB National Selection Panel to replace Ebadot.

The young player, who took nine wickets in three matches in the recently concluded Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Emerging Men’s Asia Cup, was a member of Bangladesh’s winning squad at the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2020.

Four additional players on the team, Towhid Hridoy, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Shoriful Islam, and Shamim Hossain, were also on the victorious 2020 ICC U19 World Cup squad.

Revised Bangladesh squad for Asia Cup: Shakib Al Hasan (c), Litton Kumer Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim, Afif Hossain Dhrubo, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Nasum Ahmed, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Naim Sheikh, Shamim Hossain, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Tanzim Hasan Sakib.
