The Sri Lankan city of Colombo was inundated by torrential rain, therefore Hambantota is likely to take its place as the location for the Asia Cup Super Four matches.

The Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka is scheduled to move the tournament’s final round since Colombo’s notoriously bad weather interfered with group stage events. Five Super Four games of the Asia Cup were supposed to be played in the capital of Sri Lanka. The opening round of the 2023 Asia Cup was co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka, with the Group A and Group B matches taking place in Multan, Pallekele, and Lahore.

Heavy rains in Colombo prompted the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to consider moving the Super 4 matches of the Asia Cup. According to recent developments, Hambantota has taken Colombo’s spot as the second host for the tournament’s Super 4 stage. Except for the opening match, which will be played in Lahore, all Super Four games of the Asia Cup will be played in Hambantota.

On August 22 and August 24, Pakistan and Afghanistan squared off in two white-ball matches at Hambantota. Earlier, five matches of the Asia Cup’s Super Four stage were scheduled to take place at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium. On September 17, Colombo is also anticipated to host the Asia Cup final.

Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, did not see the highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup, despite September not being regarded as a wet month there. After the high-tension match was called off on Saturday owing to weather, the traditional rivals split the points. Rain in Pallekele caused significant delays for India’s crucial match against Nepal on Monday.

However, India overcame extended rain delays to defeat Nepal in a critical Asia Cup group encounter on Monday. Half-centuries from Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill helped India to a 10-wicket win over Asia Cup newcomers in Pallekele. Rohit’s Team India has joined archrivals Pakistan in the Super 4 stage of the continental event after a convincing win against Nepal. On Sunday, India and Pakistan will face for the second time in the Asia Cup 2023.
