Prior to withdrawing due to injury in 2018, Mitchell Starc was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and on other instances, he chose international cricket over the IPL.
The following year will, however, be rather light for Australia. Between the March tour of New Zealand and the late-August start of the white-ball series against Afghanistan, Ireland, and England is a T20 World Cup.
It’s been eight years, look. According to ESPNCricinfo, Starc said of his plans to return in [next] year: “I’m definitely going back in [that] year.”
In addition to other things, he continued, it’s a terrific run-up to the T20 World Cup.
“Therefore, this is a fantastic chance to determine if the IPL has any appeal before leading into the T20 World Cup. In addition, the winter of 2019 will be relatively quiet in compared to the winter of 2018, making it, in my opinion, the ideal time for me to submit my name.
He has been delaying his IPL debut for a number of reasons, one of which is his desire to maintain his Test cricket availability. He hopes to surpass pacer Glenn McGrath, who has done it once before and is still Australia’s only pacer to have done it, by playing 100 matches in a format.
At the moment, he has played 82 Tests, and assuming he is able to participate in Australia’s next matches under the Future Tours Programme, his 100th match will take place during the Ashes in 2025–2026.
I want to be good enough to be selected for 100 tests, not just to reach 100. The World Cup, which will be in a few weeks, will be the major event and will be on an entirely new level in India.
What role do you envision for yourself in the one-day format, when there are roughly four years between World Cups? The World Cup must end first, though, so I must do that.
“However, there are some superstars on the rise. You have your Sean Abbotts, your Spencer Johnsons, and your Jhye Richardsons. Young men are coming through in large numbers. [Lance] Morris is going to turn into a weapon.
Where do I see myself in the one-day format, where there are roughly four years between World Cups? However, I must first complete this World Cup.

“I make an effort not to plan too far ahead. We naturally want to perform well at the World Cup. I haven’t actually played a Test in New Zealand, so hopefully I’m on that trip and am looking forward to that challenge as well. After that, we have five Test matches here in Australia.
