The Indian driver Karun Chandhok’s car caught fire, but he displayed incredible reactions to keep it under control and excellent presence of mind to pull it off the track.
On Saturday at the 2023 Goodwood Revival, ex-F1 driver Karun Chandhok narrowly avoided a major accident. It was difficult for Chandhok since his automobile caught fire and was shot at. The Indian driver, on the other hand, demonstrated incredible reflexes to keep his vehicle under control and excellent presence of mind to steer it off the track. Chandhok parked his car on a patch of grass off the main road, exited it, and then swiftly got back in. The scenario may have been terrible, but Chandhok’s moves were faultless.
Verstappen, the reigning world champion, outperformed Carlos Sainz, the local favourite and pole-sitter, on a gorgeous day in northern Italy, disappointing Ferrari supporters. Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez finished second.
The third-place finisher in the drivers’ championship, the Spaniard Sainz, finished more than 11 seconds later than Verstappen.
Verstappen increased his lead over teammate Sergio Perez in the drivers’ standings to 145 points. He also made sure Red Bull kept their spotless season record by winning 14 of the 16 races this year.
After breaking a record he shared with Sebastian Vettel by winning at Zandvoort last weekend, the 29-year-old has now won 12 of the races this season and is almost set to win his third consecutive F1 championship.
Yuki Tsunoda’s Alpha-Tauri car experienced a power-unit breakdown during the race’s formation lap, causing the race to be delayed by 20 minutes and reduced to 51 laps. The Dutch driver made it 10 in a row.
