“I believe that both (gaming time and rest) are important. Players should be provided rest, but they should also be allowed to play matches. Rhythm is essential. It’s terrific for a player when he’s in a good groove and you have to keep it going. We have these 2-3 contests where we will get a lot of practise. Australia is a wonderful opponent for us, and we will learn a lot from them. It is all about keeping them fresh and in rhythm. “It should be up to management,” Chahar told ANI in an exclusive interview.
Chahar also praised speedster Mohammed Siraj for his record-breaking Asia Cup spell, and noted that the Indian pace attack being in top shape enhances the Men in Blue’s chances at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
On Sunday, India won its seventh Asia Cup as Siraj’s 6/21 in seven overs reduced Sri Lanka to 50 all out in just 15.2 overs, which India easily chased down in 6.1 overs.
“I was at a practise and watched the game. He bowled superbly. He has been bowling superbly for the past year, which is why he is our top bowler. It’s good that we won the Asia Cup because we hadn’t recently won a significant competition. We will have a significant boost going into the World Cup,” said Chahar, who was present at the DNine sports brand launch event.
Siraj finished the Asia Cup 2023 as the second-highest wicket-taker with 10, trailing only Matheesha Pathirana of Sri Lanka, who recorded 11 victories.
Regarding Jasprit Bumrah’s performance at the Asia Cup, Chahar stated that Bumrah appears to be in good rhythm and that India’s bowling is in terrific shape, which increases its chances of winning the World Cup.
The best bowling numbers for Bumrah were 2/30, with four kills in four games at an average of 17.75 and an economy rate of 4.17.
“We have no control over wickets in cricket. The way you bowl is important. Even when you bowl poorly, you can still obtain wickets; yet, there are occasions when you simply cannot. I believe Bumrah is bowling effectively and with nice rhythm. Given how well our batting and bowling are performing, we have an excellent chance of winning the World Cup, according to Chahar.
The pacer stated that India has excellent possibilities and will benefit from playing at home in the World Cup.
In the competition, India has a decent opportunity. When it was hosted in India previously, we came out on top. Players have an advantage because they are familiar with the terrain and playing surfaces. Given how good every team is, I am unable to forecast the top four teams, said Chahar.
After suffering injuries during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Chahar spoke about what comes next and how he plans to rejoin Team India. “I am fit now. I’ll do my best to perform well in whichever competitions I get to compete in, including the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. I’m a player, and that’s all I can manage. We as gamers are powerless to make any other decisions. I approach every opportunity with the idea of doing well,” he said.
