India vs Australia, 2nd ODI: India defeats Australia by 99 runs to win the series

India defeated Australia at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday, winning the three-match ODI series. Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill both hit hundreds.

India defeated Australia by 99 runs in the second ODI at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday, completing the three-match series.

India scored 399 for five, its highest ODI total against Australia, and bowled the opposition out for 217. R. Ashwin had three wickets for 41 runs, while Ravindra Jadeja took three for 42.

Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill may have hit magnificent century, but Suryakumar Yadav has stolen the show by giving India the greatest of endings. He produced his second consecutive ODI half-century, but unlike the last one, this one was as characteristic of Suryakumar as they come. He blasted four consecutive sixes off Cameron Green’s over and raced past 50 in just 24 balls. SKY finally finished on 72 runs off 37 balls, and India scored 399/5, the most in ODI ever between the two teams. Due to an hour-long rain delay during Australia’s innings, the goal was reduced to 317 to be pursued in 33 overs.

Earlier, the Indian hitters put on a show at Holkar Stadium. First, Iyer smashed his third ODI century before cramping and exhaustion caught up with him. Despite the reprieve, Iyer was bowled out for 105, but not before completing a 200-run partnership with Gill, who not long after completed his sixth ODI century but died soon after.

Josh Hazlewood struck in his second over to dismiss Ruturaj Gaikwad cheaply after Australia’s stand-in captain Steve Smith won the toss and chose to bowl against India. Iyer, who came in at number three, got off to a quick start, hitting four boundaries in 11 balls and reaching the fifty-run mark with Gill in just 29 deliveries. Rain interrupted play when India reached 79/1 in 9.5 overs, but it did not remain long as bright sunshine reappeared in no time.

As the World Cup approaches, the time is ticking. India has been consistently impressive in every aspect, and the result of the first ODI against Australia on Friday demonstrates this. With the series still up for grabs, especially given their present form and the outcome of the Mohali game, India has a good opportunity to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the second ODI at Indore today.More importantly, this is the final chance for players like Ravichandran Ashwin, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav to make an impression before the return of senior players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Kuldeep Yadav for India’s final official match before the World Cup. Shreyas, in particular, is hungry to regain his form after missing out on a flat track in the last round. Shreyas’ fitness was a matter of question during the Asia Cup, as he had been unable to spend considerable time at the crease owing to a variety of factors before to this game.

A back spasm kept him out of the Asia Cup final, and an unlucky run-out ended his brief stint in the centre.

On a flat track, Ashwin bowled well but unable to trouble the Australian batters. He couldn’t generate much turn, and his flatter deliveries were easily handled by the opposition. While the champion spinner still has a chance to make India’s World Cup squad if Axar Patel is unable to recover in time, the team management wants more from the 37-year-old than what he gave.

IND 399/5 (50)

AUS 217 (28.2)

(2nd innings reduced to 33 overs due to rain, DLS target 317)
