Before their group-stage match against Pakistan in Kolkata on Saturday, England’s title defence has managed just two victories from eight games, indicating a terrible tournament for both Buttler and his team. After thrashing the Netherlands 160 runs on Wednesday, England will at least head into that game with a chance to qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan through a top-eight World Cup finish.
The five straight losses were broken by that victory, but Buttler was dismissed after just five overs, bringing his tournament total to just 111 runs in eight innings at an average of less than 14.
Before England’s match this weekend against Pakistan, who still have a chance to make the semi-finals, buttler is scheduled to meet with England Cricket Director Rob Key.
However, in the midst of a discussion about whether England needs to replace its limited-overs captain, Buttler, 33, stated that he hoped to lead what is anticipated to be a much altered team on a trip of the West Indies the following month.

‘Exceptional Stokes’
After Ben Stokes’ courageous 108 helped England reach a 339-9 total against the Netherlands, which was more than sufficient, England owed Stokes another obligation.
Test captain Stokes, meanwhile, will not be going to the Caribbean because, following the World Cup, he will have knee surgery.
When England appeared to have no chance of making it to the semi-finals, there were cries for Stokes to return home for surgery right away.
After rescuing England’s innings on Wednesday from a disastrous 192–6, Stokes declared, “I don’t leave anyone hanging.”
Buttler insisted that there was never any thought of leaving early.
“No, we haven’t had any discussions along those lines. That’s not at all Ben’s style,” he remarked.
“He wants to perform in shows similar to the ones you just witnessed. He has a history of always sticking up for whoever he is playing for when the team is in need of someone to step up.
“We’re very lucky to have him in the team and I thought his innings today was exceptional.”
However, Buttler was unwavering in his assessment of the significance of the Pakistani match.
He declared, “It’s a crucial game for us, huge.” “We haven’t performed the way we wanted to this whole trip, and we’d like to leave India putting in a proper performance.”
