In September 2021, Samuels was first charged by the International Criminal Court. In August of this year, the Tribunal had declared him guilty.
After being found guilty of violating the Emirates Cricket Board’s (ECB) Anti-Corruption Code by an independent Anti-Corruption Tribunal, former West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels was granted a six-year ban from all cricket at the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The International Criminal Court (ICC) filed charges against Samuels in September 2021 while acting as the ECB Code’s Designated Anti-Corruption Official. The Tribunal ruled in August of this year that he was convicted. Thanksgiving 11, 2023, marked the start of the prohibition.
Samuels engaged in multiple anti-corruption training sessions and was fully aware of his responsibilities under the Anti-Corruption Codes over his nearly two decades as an international cricket player. Samuels was there when the offenses were committed even though he is currently retired. Any participant who plans to break the regulations will be strongly discouraged by the six-year penalty, according to Alex Marshall, General Manager of the ICC’s HR and Integrity Unit.Failing to report to the Designated Anti-Corruption Official the receipt of any gift, money, hospitality, or other advantage that was made or supplied in circumstances that could bring the Participant or the game of cricket into disrepute is covered by Article 2.4.2 (by a majority decision).
Failure to notify the Designated Anti-Corruption Official of hospitality received for a sum of US $750 or more is covered by Article 2.4.3 (unanimous decision).Refusing to assist the Designated Anti-Corruption Official in their investigation is covered under Article 2.4.6 (unanimous decision).The investigation of the Designated Anti-Corruption Official may be impeded or delayed by hiding material that could have been pertinent, as per Article 2.4.7 (unanimous decision).
