Men’s National Boxing Championship quarterfinalist Shiva Thapa (63.5kg) and World Championships runner-up Amit Panghal (51kg) both continued their strong form.
On Wednesday, the men’s national boxing championships advanced to the quarterfinals thanks to the continued success of six-time Asian Championships medallist Shiva Thapa (63.5kg) and World Championships runner-up Amit Panghal (51kg). Thapa, the previous edition’s gold medallist, showed off his skills by easily defeating Santhosh HK of Karnataka 5-0. The Assamese fighter will now square off against Delhi’s Shashank Pradhan in the quarterfinals. In the role of SSCB representative, Panghal defeated Punjab’s Jayshandeep Singh 4-1 to set up a quarterfinal matchup with Jammu and Kashmir’s Mohammad Aarif.
In the 92kg weight class, Chandigarh’s Sawan Gill was defeated 5-0 by 2021 Asian champion Sanjeet.
In the quarterfinals, Sanjeet of SSCB will play Naman Tanwar of RSPB.
In the 80kg class, Ashish Kumar from Himachal Pradesh defeated Nitish Kumar from Chandigarh via first-round knockout, showcasing his quick and forceful boxing style.
In the final eight, the Tokyo Olympian will go on Lakshya of SSCB.
There are more than 350 boxers competing in the championships, spread over 13 weight classes.
