According to the news sources, the BCCI has chosen to retire MS Dhoni’s No. 7 shirt. Previously, Sachin Tendulkar’s No. 10 shirt was also removed from the racks.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has chosen to retire the No. 7 shirt in honor of former India captain MS Dhoni. The shirt became identified with Dhoni, who remains India’s most successful ICC captain. While the great Sachin Tendulkar’s No. 10 shirt has already been retired by the Indian board, a decision has been reached to add Dhoni’s No. 7 shirt to the list as well, honoring the contributions the wicket-keeper batsman made to the Indian team in the game, sources have told News sources.

The BCCI is said to have warned Indian team players that they cannot wear the number 7 on their back while wearing the Indian jersey, just as no one was permitted to wear the number 10 shirt.

According to an Indian Express story, the No. 7 shirt is already sold out for Indian players.

“Young players and current Indian team players have been instructed not to wear M S Dhoni’s No. 7 jersey.” Dhoni’s T-shirt will be retired by the BCCI in recognition of his contributions to the game. “No. 7 cannot be obtained by a new player, and No. 10 is already off the list of available numbers,” a senior Board official told news sources.

However, bowler Shardul Thakur did wear the No. 10 shirt briefly during his early days with the Indian squad. However, after that much-discussed incident, the garment was withdrawn. In the case of the No. 7 shirt, the BCCI intervened quickly and removed the number from the players’ grasp.

The BCCI official also revealed that the Indian team’s players are now assigned 60 numbers.

“At the moment, 60-odd numbers are assigned to regulars and contenders on the Indian team.” So, even if a player has been off of the squad for a year or so, his number is not given to a new player. “A recent debutant has only 30-odd numbers to choose from,” a BCCI official explained.
