Aakash Chopra believes Hardik Pandya is not a “finished product” as a captain.
Former India player and cricket commentator Aakash Chopra believes Hardik Pandya is not a “finished product” as a captain. Hardik returned to the five-time champions as part of a transfer agreement between the Gujarat Titans and the Mumbai Indians ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. While many expected Hardik to play under Rohit’s captaincy, MI’s decision to give the 30-year-old all-rounder the skipper earlier this week surprised many. Aakash provided his view on Pandya’s appointment while hosting JioCinema’s daily sports show ‘#AAKASHVANI,’ saying, “It’s my understanding and not some inside news.” Captaincy may have been part of Hardik (Pandya’s) decision to leave Gujarat. This decision would undoubtedly have been communicated to Rohit Sharma as well.”
“Rohit would have also been briefed on the Mumbai Indians’ future plans.” I believe Ashish Nehra played a significant part in Hardik becoming the captain he is at Gujarat Titans. So Mumbai’s job is cut out for it. “They have to provide inputs at a different level for Hardik to replicate them on the field, because I don’t think Hardik, as a captain, is a finished product yet,” Aakash remarked.
