IPL 2024 Auction: Ahead of the IPL 2024 Auction, the BCCI is changing a major rule to allow two bouncers every over

For the IPL 2024 season, bowlers would reportedly be permitted to utilize two bouncers every over by the BCCI.

Before the Dubai auction begins, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has apparently implemented a significant regulation modification. In order to increase competition between the bat and the ball, the IPL plans to let bowlers to deliver two bouncers per over starting in the next season. In India’s domestic T20 competition, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) effectively tested the regulation. Now, the IPL 2024 season is scheduled to see its implementation.

The rule has already been accepted and will be put into effect during the upcoming season, according to the news report. This regulation change excites Indian pacer Jyadev Unadkat.

“I do feel two bouncers an over is very much useful, and I feel it’s one of those things which gives the bowler an added advantage over batsmen,” Unadkat was quoted as saying by news outlets. Because, in the event that I bowl a slower bouncer, for instance, the batter in the preceding instance is certain that no more bouncers will be coming. In this instance, you can use one more bouncer [in the over] even if you bowl one slower one in the first half of the over. It will force someone who struggles with bouncers to improve, giving the bowler an additional tool in their toolbox.

Thus, in my opinion, it’s a very minor adjustment with a significant effect, and as a bowler, I think the rule is crucial.”

“Also in the death overs, you have one more option,” he stated. “Therefore, fast bowlers were increasingly using yorker-oriented bowling in death overs.” Since there are two bouncers per over, it cannot be a yorker, slower ball, or bouncers. The batsman still expects that the bowler will bowl the second bouncer even if you don’t bowl it.”

The rule may also affect the thinking of the ten organizations as they attempt to acquire some of the best pacers available at the auction. Teams already have their best picks on their wishlists, including Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Geral Coetzee. The alteration in the rules might intensify the rivalry for them.
