Warner announced that he would be leaving the longer format soon, but in order to assist the team advance in the format, the batter also announced that he would be leaving ODIs.

Opening batsman David Warner of Australia said on Monday that he has made the decision to retire from Test and One-Day International (ODI) cricket in order to spend more time with his family.

At his home ground, Sydney Cricket Ground, the 37-year-old, a vital component of the Australian side that won the ODI World Cup for the sixth time in India last year, will play his 112th and final test match against Pakistan beginning on Wednesday.

“I told reporters at the Sydney Cricket Ground that I wanted to finish that, but I’ve also decided to announce my retirement from that format,” Warner stated at the World Cup. “It’ll facilitate the one-day team’s progress a little, but they know where I am if they need me.”

Warner made his debut in January 2009 and went on to win two World Cups in the format. He amassed 22 hundreds and 6,932 runs at an average of 45.30 across 161 ODIs.
