President Droupadi Murmu will present Shami with the award at the National Sports Awards on Tuesday, January 9, after he ended as the top wicket-taker in the 2023 ICC World Cup.

The Indian pacer Mohammed Shami remarked on Monday that receiving the Arjuna Award is like realizing a dream, just days before the President of India would present him with it in New Delhi.

At the National Sports Awards, which will be held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in the nation’s capital on Tuesday, January 9, President Droupadi Murmu will present the Arjuna Award to Shami, who finished as the highest wicket-taker in the most recent ICC World Cup held domestically.

“Winning this honor is a dream. People are not eligible to obtain this prize after a whole lifetime has passed. I’m really happy about it and proud of myself.

Many people spend their entire lives as just spectators, watching others gain these honors. Many people still have unmet dreams, Shami said to ANI on Monday.

Shami hasn’t played since India’s six-wicket defeat to Australia in the World Cup final in Ahmedabad. The pacemaker was originally scheduled to travel to South Africa, but an ankle issue forced him to miss the trip. His absence from the first two Test matches against England, which are scheduled for Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam, respectively, is now likely.

Shami, nevertheless, stated that he will make every effort to go back into play as soon as possible and that injuries are a natural part of life.

“Taking one’s time to return to activity and dealing with injuries are both aspects of the game. But valuing the affection that fans have for players is what really matters. Will work to get back on the ground as soon as possible,” the speedster for the Gujarat Titans continued.

Regarding the megaseries, which begins on this month’s 25th, Shami stated he had no fresh plans for the English players, who will be visiting India for the first time under Ben Stokes’ leadership.

“I don’t consider myself creative in any way. I’ve always believed that fitness will bring about results on its own. I attempt to keep my attention on completing the tasks that the team has given me.

We’re playing at home, which is our greatest advantage over a formidable squad like England. It’s critical that we approach the series with the appropriate frame of mind, the appropriate level of fitness, and a good attitude, Shami said.
