Prior to the T20 World Cup, the Afghanistan Cricket Board confirmed a series in the United Arab Emirates against Ireland and a tour to Sri Lanka.

An Ireland series in the United Arab Emirates and a visit to Sri Lanka were announced by the Afghanistan Cricket Board in advance of the T20 World Cup. The Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground in Colombo will host a one-off Test between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka on February 2. An ODI and T20I series consisting of three matches each will commence on February 9 and February 17, respectively, after the one-off Test. The ODI series will take place at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, hence the Afghanistan team will be based in Colombo for all of the matches. When the T20I series begins, the team will relocate to Dambulla.

The Blue Tigers will play Ireland in the United Arab Emirates from February 28 to March 18 following the conclusion of their tour of Sri Lanka.

Afghanistan will play a single Test match and subsequently a three-match white ball series (T20I, ODI). The series will follow the same format.

In addition to both teams traveling to Sharjah for the white-ball series, the one-off Test match will take place at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

The dates of the ODIs are March 7, 9, and 12, and the T20Is start on March 15.

Speaking about the forthcoming tour, CEO of the Afghanistan Cricket Board Naseeb Khan stated, citing the ICC, that “2024 is a very busy and full of high-voltage competitions for the Afghanistan national team.”

The forthcoming tours to India and Sri Lanka, followed by the home series against Ireland, will aid in the team’s preparation for the crucial Twenty20 World Cup. “We’re excitedly anticipating the multiple series,” Naseeb continued.

Afghanistan’s first tour of India begins on Thursday with a three-match Twenty20 International series before they head to Sri Lanka.
