Elgar further stated that two or three years after the event, when India visited South Africa in 2017-18, Kohli approached him to apologize.

Dean Elgar, a former South African captain, claims that former India captain Virat Kohli’spat’ on him during a test series.

According to Elgar, the event occurred during the first Test at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali during South Africa’s 2015 tour of India. The four-match Test series was part of a protracted series that included five One-Day Internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals.

After winning the first Test by 108 runs, India swept the series 3-0, with one match tied.

“Those were absurd wickets. similar to having fun on that surface there. Elgar stated on the podcast “Banter, with The Boys” that “and I came into bat and I was actually like holding my own against (Ravichandran) Ashwin and what’s his name Jeja (Ravindra Jadeja) (smiles) and Kohli, he like spit at me.”

“Those were ridiculous wickets. As if you were playing on that surface there. And when I got to bat, I was really holding my own against (Ravichandran) Ashwin and, I think, Jeja (Ravindra Jadeja) (smiles), and Kohli kind of spit on me,” Elgar revealed on the podcast “Banter, with The Boys.”Elgar said, “Yes, he did because de Villiers was his teammate at RCB, so he understood,” in response to the question of whether Kohli understood the meaning of the term. And I threatened to knock you out completely on this field if you did that. ‘Hey F* you, F* you,’ he yelled, mimicking an Indian, but he was barking up the wrong tree. Nevertheless, you should use some caution because we are in India.

Elgar claimed that de Villiers had questioned Kohli, “Why are you spitting at my teammate?” after learning that the cricket player had spit on him.

When India toured South Africa in 2017–18, two years after the incident, Elgar reported that Kohli had come to him to apologize.

“Hey, can we go have a drink after the series? I want to apologize for my actions,” asked Kohli, yanking me aside two and a half years later. And so we drank until three in the afternoon. This was his drinking period,” he said in conclusion.

Earlier last month, Elgar declared his retirement from international cricket. The Newlands in Cape Town served as his final match. Since Temba Bavuma was out due to injury, Elgar was really asked to lead South Africa in his last Test match. But India prevailed in the second Test to tie the series 1-1.
