Sri Lanka will host the International Cricket Council (ICC)’s Annual General Meeting in July now that their suspension has been removed, according to the country’s sports minister, Harin Fernando.

Sri Lanka will host the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Annual General Meeting in July now that their suspension has been removed, the country’s sports minister Harin Fernando announced on Thursday. Sri Lanka Cricket was stopped due to government meddling in its operations. It lost the island nation the opportunity to host the Under-19 World Cup, which is now taking place in South Africa.

“Sri Lanka will host the ICC AGM from July 19-22 in Colombo. “This will be a huge boost for Sri Lanka in terms of cricket and tourism,” Fernando, who is also the tourism minister, said in a statement.

SLC was suspended in November for failing to meet its ICC Member duties, notably failing to run its operations freely and avoid government intervention in Sri Lankan cricket regulation and administration.

Fernando’s predecessor, Roshan Ranasinghe, established an interim committee to investigate allegations of corruption at SLC. Arjuna Ranatunga, the former World Cup-winning captain, led the committee.

The ICC declared that Ranasinghe’s decision to appoint an interim committee violated its governance guidelines.

On Sunday, though, the suspension was removed since Fernando had revoked the Ranasinghe gazette back in December.
