On the third day of the second Test match between India and England in Vishakhapatnam, Shubman Gill brilliantly responded to his critiques with a century.

On Sunday, during the third day of the second Test match between India and England in Vishakhapatnam, batsman Shubman Gill of the Indian cricket team responded to his detractors with an outstanding century. At the beginning of his knock, Gill had a few near misses, but the right-hander recovered to smash 104 off 147 deliveries. For Gill, who has recently struggled in Test cricket and reportedly even faced an ultimatum from the team management of the Test match, it was much-needed relief. This was reported by Indian Express.

According to the source, Gill was set a deadline following his duck in the first Test’s second innings and was expected to play the Ranji Trophy in order to hone his skills. Gill probably would have traveled to Mohali, where Punjab will host Gujarat starting on February 9, if he hadn’t played well in this game.

Gill told a family member, “I’m going to go play the Ranji Trophy match against Gujarat in Mohali.”

After Shubman Gill’s century on Sunday, England needed a record 399 to win the second Test. Spinners Tom Hartley and Rehan Ahmed helped England bowl out India for 255.

The hosts’ innings finished in the third session at Visakhapatnam, despite Gill’s 104, but India dropped wickets consistently after pace bowler James Anderson dismissed the openers in the morning.
With his left-arm spin, Hartley claimed four wickets, and Ahmed’s third blow to end the innings ultimately removed a recalcitrant Ravichandran Ashwin for 29.
The largest fourth-inning target in India was when the hosts scored 387 against England in 2008, and the greatest fourth-inning target against India was England’s 378 at Edgbaston in 2022.
Gill hit his third Test ton and first in his 12 innings since March 2023, to pull India out from 122-4 with two key stands including 89 runs with Axar Patel.

As he lifted his bat in front of the applauding Sunday crowd, Gill got the hundred with a single against rookie spinner Shoaib Bashir.
