“Some Players Are In IPL Mode”: BCCI Is Disappointed With Stars’ Ranji Trophy Rejection, per Report

The BCCI has reportedly been dissatisfied with certain players for not winning the Ranji Trophy. To convey the same information to the players, the board is configured.

It is believed that the players’ unwillingness to participate in the Ranji Trophy is upsetting the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). There are certain players who aren’t playing First Class cricket despite being forced to sit out, even though players like Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane have been trying hard to make a comeback into the Indian team—the former even scoring a few tons in the process. The board is apparently trying to let the players know that it is understandable that they are unhappy with people who are not giving the Ranji Trophy a chance.

According to some news sources, the BCCI wants to instruct the players, if fit, to compete for their state teams in the Ranji Trophy. The National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru is where the unfit should go to begin their rehabilitation.

“The BCCI will notify all players in the coming days to participate in the Ranji Trophy for their state team, provided they are not on national service. The only players who would not be eligible to play are those who are unfit and receiving treatment at the NCA. The Board isn’t too pleased that some players have been in IPL mode since January.

Ishan Kishan, the wicketkeeper batsman, has faced a lot of flak lately about his choice to skip the Ranji Trophy. During India’s tour of South Africa, Ishan requested a break for his mental health and hasn’t returned to the national team since. Although head coach Rahul Dravid insisted that he “play some cricket,” he continued to ignore the Ranji Trophy despite being sighted training with his Indian Premier League captain, Hardik Pandya.

Even though there is a Test series against England going on, the BCCI is reportedly not thrilled about certain players being in “IPL mode” since January.

KS Bharat and Dhruv Jurel, among others, have been vying for the position behind the stumps in Ishan’s absence.
