According to the police official in charge of the case, physicians confirmed her dead when she was transferred to an Islamabad hospital.

Zainab Ali Naqvi, a teen Pakistani tennis player, died of a suspected heart attack after falling in her room following a practice session for an ITF junior event. The 17-year-old died while being transported to a hospital late Monday night. She was accompanied by her grandmother, who had sought assistance after the child fainted. “It is very sad because Zainab was a very promising player on the women’s circuit who worked tirelessly to win the ITF junior competitions,” stated a top Pakistan Tennis Federation official.

According to the police official in charge of the case, physicians confirmed her dead when she was transferred to an Islamabad hospital.

“The doctors suspect a heart attack and have termed it as a natural cause of death and her parents also didn’t want any postmortem and they have been handed over her body for transportation back to Karachi,” he told reporters.

On the condition of anonymity, the PTF official stated that doctors suspected her of having Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, a disorder in which the heart muscle thickens.

The PTF expressed condolences to the young player’s family in an official statement regarding the tragedy, stating that it had caused “profound grief”. “Mr. Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, the President of the Pakistan Tennis Federation, Senator Salim Saifullah Khan, Ex- President PTF, PTF Council Members, and the tennis fraternity at large offer their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family,” read the statement.
All of the ITF event’s Tuesday matches were rescheduled for Wednesday in remembrance of the departed player.
