On The “MS Dhoni” Decision of Anil Kumble Regarding the Dhruv Jurel vs Rishabh Pant Selection Debate

Dhruv Jurel has established a solid reputation for himself among the Test team in lieu of first-choice keeper Rishabh Pant.

Former India captain Anil Kumble has expressed his thoughts on young wicketkeeper batter Dhruv Jurel following his outstanding performance in the fourth Test against England in Ranchi. Jurel shined with the bat as India defeated England by five wickets at the JSCA International Stadium on Monday. Jurel hit a tough 90 in the first innings before scoring an undefeated 39 to help India chase down 192. In the absence of first-choice keeper Rishabh Pant, Jurel has established a solid case for himself in the Test team.

Kumble, impressed by Jurel’s performance in his Test career thus far, predicted that the youngster will have a career as successful as famous India wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni.

“Oh, there’s Rishabh Pant.” We don’t know when he’ll arrive or return. Hopefully, Rishabh will be there sooner. But, otherwise, he surely has all of the credentials to get to where MS (Dhoni) did in his career. But he’s demonstrated that he can use his technique to attack as well as defend. Even in the first innings, he was really confident; he went after and then struck those massive sixes while batting with the tail and hats off even behind the stumps,” Kumble said on Jio Cinema.

Kumble believes that aside from his batting prowess, Jurel’s glovework is unmatched, and that his abilities will only improve with time.

In the fourth Test, Jurel came in for KS Bharat in the playing XI after the Andhra Pradesh wicketkeeper did not perform well with the bat or the gloves.

“He’s performed admirably. in particular, of the quicker bowlers. Once more, Spinners made a few excellent catches, and he will only get better. Even though this is just his second test, I have no doubt that he will only become better as he plays more and more. Furthermore, it bodes good for India. It’s remarkable to have him in a squad.

Yeah, things haven’t been easy for KS Bharat. But that is why I stated that the selectors chose him after only 15 first-class games. Saying, “Okay, this is the person we believe in and introduced him in the last Test.” And since then, he’s been amazing and has played the match because batting is really important to me, and I don’t want to put a damper on it because that’s not my objective,” he continued.
