The BCCI will hold a Senior Inter Zonal Multi-Day Trophy in Pune starting on March 28 to bring women’s red-ball cricket back to the domestic schedule in India after a four-year absence.

After a four-year hiatus, women’s red-ball cricket will be played domestically in India again on March 28 when the BCCI hosts the Senior Inter Zonal Multi-Day Trophy in Pune, the body announced on Friday. The action follows the Indian women’s cricket team’s return to Test cricket. In recent years, the team has played Test matches against Australia and England. The most recent women’s red ball cricket competition took place in 2018. “BCCI has taken a positive step. Former India bowler Amita Sharma told PTI, “We need the next generation of cricketers to play red ball cricket at the domestic level. The national team has started playing Test cricket again.”

“In addition, I would prefer red ball to be played at the state level rather than merely the zonal level. We experienced both of those things back then,” she continued.

The competition, which includes six teams representing the East, West, North, South, Central, and North-East zones, will be hosted by the Maharashtra Cricket Association.

A day more than the two-day games played in the 2018 season, they will be competing in a series of five matches spread over three days apiece.

Following the Women’s Premier League, which concludes on March 17, the tournament will get underway.

On March 28, the quarterfinals between the East and North East Zones and the West and Central Zones will take place. On April 3, the semifinals are scheduled.
