Bangladesh scored 188 runs in response to Sri Lanka’s 280 in their opening innings, continuing their unbeaten streak in Test series against Bangladesh.
The first innings centurions, de Silva and Kamindu Mendis, both reached three figures for the second time in the contest as the lions went on to score 418, helping Sri Lanka set a massive goal of 510 runs for Bangladesh.
They were just the third duo from the same nation to hit hundreds in each innings in a Test match, following Misbah-ul-Haq and Azhar Ali of Pakistan and the Chappell brothers of Australia.
Kamindu Mendis, a young all-rounder from Sri Lanka, made history by being the first player to score two hundred at No. 7 or lower in a Test match with his two debut centuries.
Bangladesh started the launch on day 04 and reached 129 for 7, on 47 for 5, pursuing 511. The Tigers lost Taijul Islam, the night watchman, early in the day after the fourth day got underway. He was trapped LBW for six runs.
