Wanindu Hasaranga, a star Sri Lankan all-rounder, will not join Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed that Hasaranga will miss India’s T20 event owing to an injury.

In an effort to bolster their bowling unit, Sunrisers Hyderabad acquired Wanindu Hasaranga as their primary international spinner for a base price of Rs 1.50 crore. Prior to the mini-auction held last year, the leg-spinner was cut loose from the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) squad.

Washington Sundar, Mayank Markhande, and Shahbaz Ahmed are the current members of SRH’s spin department. The team may decide to look for a replacement in light of the previous difficulties with player availability—a tactic that has been used by a number of other teams in comparable circumstances.

Wanindu Hasaranga will miss the IPL 2024 season because he needs to recover, SLC CEO Ashley de Silva confirmed. According to De Silva, Hasaranga made the decision to deal with this matter before to the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Hasaranga has had a whirlwind of occurrences recently. Because of his return to Test cricket, he was expected to miss the first few matches of the 2024 IPL. But when he was asked to serve his ban during the Test series against Bangladesh, his availability for the tournament changed.

Hasaranga did not participate in the first two IPL 2024 games for SunRisers Hyderabad, despite not being on the national squad. He has now formally chosen not to play in the IPL, citing injury concerns and wanting to concentrate on the June 2024 T20 World Cup.

In order to heal completely before the ICC competition in the Caribbean and the USA, the skipper of Sri Lanka’s Twenty20 team is scheduled to visit Dubai to speak with an expert on his ailment. He wants to be ready for the big event to begin as soon as possible. The manager of Hasaranga denied any claims that his absence was because he was unhappy with his auction price. The management cited Hasaranga’s ailment and his obligations to the national team as the main causes of his absence, according to a report by Cricbuzz.
“We might have registered for an INR 2 crore base price if money was a consideration. Less games also equate to less money. His ankle needs to be taken care of. He leads the national team as captain as well. Hasaranga’s manager said.

SRH won the auction and bought Hasaranga for his base price. The star spinner previously signed a big contract for Rs. 10.75 crore two years ago and proved his mettle by finishing among the top wicket-takers in the 2022 competition.
