Goa Police on Sunday granted bail to Deepak Sharma, the AIFF executive committee member who was charged with assaulting two female football players physically while intoxicated.
Deepak, the only male player from Himachal Pradesh who traveled to Goa with the women’s squad Khad FC, is accused of hitting two players on the evening of March 28 while intoxicated. The following day, a complaint about the same was filed with the AIFF and the police.The accused was detained at the Mapusa Police Station on Saturday following the victims’ filing of a formal complaint. The charges against the accused were 354A (sexual harassment), 323 (voluntarily causing harm), and 341 (wrongful restraint).
However, Deepak left on bail the very next day, with Adv. Siddesh Goltekar representing him.Deepak is the chairperson of the Infrastructure Committee of the federation and the deputy chairperson of the AIFF Competition Committee. In the meantime, the AIFF has made sure that Deepak gets the proper sanction.
The AIFF Women’s Committee Chairperson, Valanka Alemao, stated, “We have suspended Mr. Deepak Sharma from all kinds of footballing activities in India until and unless the probe is complete, and once the probe is complete, the wrongdoer will be punished, whoever it is.”
