The Indian Premier League (IPL) was ignited on Thursday at Wankhede Stadium by speedster Jasprit Bumrah of the Mumbai Indians (MI) and India. He took five wickets against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). With statistics of 5/21 in four overs, Bumrah concluded the innings. He had a 5.20 economy rate. He removed Virat Kohli and Faf Du Plessis, the opening pair, with crucial wickets. He also removed Mahipal Lomror, Saurav Chauhan, and Vijaykumar Vyshak. In IPL history, this is the first time a team has taken five wickets against RCB. With his second IPL wicket, Bumrah joins the select group of bowlers that have taken two five-wicket hauls in the competition: Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat, and James Faulkner.

As of right now, Bumrah has surpassed Sandeep Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja, who both have 26 wickets, to hold the record for most wickets against RCB. He currently has 29 wickets in the match against the RCB.

Harbhajan Singh has been surpassed by Bumrah to enter the top 10 wicket-takers in the history of the league. He has taken 155 wickets at an average of 22.56 and a strike rate of 18.46 in 125 games. He bowls a 5/10 at his best. In contrast, Harbhajan has 150 wickets from 163 games.

MI won the toss and decided to bowl first going into the game. Captain Faf Du Plessis (61 in 40 balls, four boundaries and three sixes) and Rajat Patidar (50 in 26 balls, three fours and four sixes) hammered MI batsmen all over the park after early dismissals of Virat (3) and Will Jacks (8). They shared an 82-run partnership for the third wicket. Ultimately, RCB reached 196/8 in 20 overs with to some excellent shotmaking and finishing from Dinesh Karthik (53* in 23 balls, with five fours and four sixes).
