The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is thinking about paying local players twice as much. The BCCI has assigned the national selection committee, chaired by Ajit Agarkar, the duty of assisting them in putting this theory into practice, according to a report in Cricbuzz. Ensuring that the non-IPL players don’t feel left out is the idea’s only goal. A player who has participated in more over 40 Ranji games is currently compensated by the BCCI with Rs 60,000 per day.
Players who participate in 21–40 matches receive Rs 50,000, while those who play 20 matches receive Rs 40,000 every day.
Within the same categories, reserve players receive daily salaries of Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000. Senior players on a winning team have the potential to earn a maximum of Rs 25 lakh, while the remaining players in the team can earn anything from Rs 17 lakh to Rs 22 lakh.
“It is understood that different plans are under consideration but there is unanimity among all concerned in the BCCI that the fees for the domestic cricketers has to be doubled at least,” stated the report.
According to the article, BCCI is also thinking about raising the payout scale for players who appear in 10 Ranji Trophy matches, from Rs 75 lakh to Rs 1 crore.
Participating in domestic white-ball competitions like Vijay Hazare and Mushtaq Ali will also increase the players’ earnings.
The article also indicates that the adjustments might be implemented as early as the upcoming season, even though this development has not been confirmed.
The goal of the action is to maximize the earnings of domestic players who are not playing in the IPL while also encouraging local players to participate in the Ranji Trophy.
Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, declared earlier this year that players in Test matches will get more match money.
Sunil Gavaskar, the former captain of India, praised the announcement and proposed doubling or tripling the salaries for domestic cricket players. “If the Ranji Trophy fees can be doubled or tripled, certainly there’ll be a lot more people playing the Ranji Trophy, and a lot less pullouts from the Ranji Trophy, because if the fees of playing a Ranji Trophy match are a good fee, there will be fewer people pulling out for various reasons,” the legend of cricket had said last month.
