The news of a potential quick’s injury setback comes as a major blow to England ahead of their summer Test campaign.

Fast bowler Josh Tongue’s pectoral injury setback has left him out of action indefinitely, which has dealt a blow to England.

Tongue was one of the top contenders to succeed James Anderson when the seasoned player steps away from Test cricket following the first Test against the West Indies, even though he hasn’t competed at any level since August of last year.

With a pectoral problem that he has been dealing with since his two impressive outings in Test matches last year, Tongue was ruled out of England’s white-ball tour of the Caribbean and the ICC World Test Championship series in India at the beginning of this year.

Tongue, 26, will be questionable for the ensuing three-game series against Sri Lanka due to his most recent setback, which will cause him to miss England’s three-match series against the West Indies at home.

According to an English statement, Josh experienced a setback related to his initial injury. When he will resume his activities is unknown.

In the second innings of England’s one-off Test match against Ireland, Tongue made waves by taking five wickets in his debut. Later, in the second Ashes Test match against Australia at Lord’s, Tongue was awarded another cap.

After the first Test of England’s summer against the West Indies at Lord’s in early July, the seasoned fast bowler Anderson announced his retirement from Test cricket. Tongue has been identified as a possible replacement for Anderson.
