Scotland’s 90 for 0 in vain as match is abandoned due to rain

Rain on Tuesday caused the match to be abandoned, ending Scotland’s chances of upsetting England and earning a historic victory. England’s opening encounter against Scotland was marred by weather, so they had their work cut out for them as they had to chase a target of 109 in 10 overs. Despite lengthy weather delays before and during their innings, Scotland’s opening pair, Michael Jones and George Munsey, put up an undefeated opening partnership of 90 runs.

Just 22 balls remained in Scotland’s innings when play resumed following the second of those interruptions, which turned the match into a 10-overs-a-side competition. England must now score at a rate of more than 10 runs per over on a challenging wicket after they took full advantage of that.
Even though England is one of the most powerful teams in limited overs cricket, they are aiming to end what must be the oddest drought in history today in addition to kicking off their title defense. When playing in the T20 World Cup, England has never been able to triumph over a team from Europe.

In this T20 World Cup encounter, England will play Scotland for the first time. England has faced Ireland and the Netherlands in two T20 World Cup tournaments in the past, but no team has triumphed. Group B includes Australia, Scotland, Namibia, Oman, and England’s bitter rivals.

England defeated Pakistan in a series that they won easily at home to get ready for the T20 World Cup, but the players didn’t get the kind of match practice they would have liked because two of the four games were postponed.

Though their sides had made it to the playoffs, Phil Salt and skipper Jos Buttler were left out of the tournament to play the series against Pakistan, meaning that most England players were sweating it out in the IPL.

Jofra Archer, a paceman, will be the center of attention today when he plays in his home country of Barbados. After being out of action for more than a year due to injury, Buttler acknowledged that Archer, 29, was “desperate” to get back. Considering that they were his first two games following his recovery, Archer performed admirably in the series. In the second T20I, he recorded 2/28, and in the fourth, 1/31 statistics. It is England’s hope that he can replicate his successful World Cup campaign and get off to a strong start on his home field.
