On Wednesday, India’s ace shuttler P V Sindhu was defeated by Hsu Wen-chi of Chinese Taipei in the first round of the Indonesia Open, exiting the BWF Super 1000 tournament shockingly early. Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist and past world champion, suffered her first loss against Wen-chi in the women’s singles competition, 15-21, 21-15, 14-21. The Taiwanese shuttler took an hour and ten minutes to defeat the Commonwealth Games gold champion. Sindhu failed to get beyond the second round of the Indonesia Open last year.
